Malaysia's oil and gas digital technology leaders are meeting in KL in October 9-10 for the 7th Digital Energy Journal forum, organised together this year with MDEC, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation, with speakers from PETRONAS, MOGSC, Bumi Armada, Cairn India and NOEX Exploration.

Our first day - agenda below - will look at how companies are using digital technology to improve their overall profitability - including safety and efficiency - including how they manage exploration data, determine where to drill, manage production and manage facilities.

The second day will look at how the oil and gas industry is providing many opportunities for people with data science and digital technology expertise, to be part of these efforts to take the industry further.

The Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council or MOGSC was formed on 1st December 2003, as an initiative to establish an association driven and promoted by the services sector of the Malaysian Oil & Gas Industry.

MOGSC is now the premier business forum representing the interests of Oil & Gas Service Providers and the membership of almost 400 companies represent all sectors within the industry.

Malaysia at the forefront of Data Economy: An overview of the National Big Data Analytics Initiative

Soma is with the Digital Economy Division of MDEC, a federal agency entrusted to develop, coordinate, and promote Malaysia’s digital economy, ICT industry, and the adoption of digital technology amongst Malaysians.
His key role is to lead the establishment and execution of Strategic Partnerships in the areas of Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Internet of Things (IoT).

Case study: using machine learning to extract data from scanned engineering design drawings

Talk Description.
- Return on investment comes from much faster document processing, fewer errors, manpower reduction.
- Project for a major UK oil and gas engineering company
- Aim to develop a spreadsheet of 'metadata' from the drawings, such as types of valves and pipes, properties of each component, connectivity on the engineering drawing. Start point and end point of pipelines
- Using image processing, deep neural network models, including Google's "Tensorflow". The model is trained with various labelled engineering components and Tensorflow can detect them even if they are scaled or rotated.
